Novice Turkey Hunting

Tuesday, February, 19, 2008

The SC Book Festival schedule is now online.  Before we get to Monroe and 254_fmfile_scbookfestival_logo.jpgHumphreys, what about that session called “Novice Turkey Hunting”?  (Are there enough writers on that subject to form a panel? I guess the answer is yes.)

It’s this weekend, free, at the convention center—and you can catch up with writers you’ve read or read about in skirt!.

Janna McMahan has published essays in skirt!  She’s part of several sessions and has a new book out:  Calling HomeJan24_7COL_1.jpg.

Dinah Johnson, (at left, from our January 24-7 page), will be talking about children’s literature and her book Hair DanceCaroline Lord, who publishes the literary journal Short Story is moderating a panel, and novelist Elise Blackwell is on stage both Saturday and Sunday.

Plus Josephine Humphreys, Mary Alice Monroe, Cassandra King, and Nathalie Dupree; a mimosa brunch just for book clubs (5 members for $25); and some guys who’ll make you laugh, like George Singleton

I cannot vouch for the Novice Turkey Hunting panel, but I did hear Nathalie Dupree speak about shrimp and grits last year, and she was great.  Do you sense a poultry theme emerging for this year’s festival?  (perhaps because so many writers earn chicken feed? or that their handwriting looks like chicken scratch?)  Below is artwork for the festival poster created by our city’s beloved Chicken Man, Ernest Lee.
