I have been wanting to play the guitar forever and I am not that bad on my husband's, but my hands are a bit smaller than his and my chest is kind of large making it hard to play some of the traditional acoustics. For valentines day he got me my Dean Playmate, 3/4 size guitar. It looks just like a slightly smaller version of his beautiful blue Dean. It has a smaller body that accommodates the chest and the neck is shorter-nice for small hands. It has all the quality of a Dean (once the factory strings were replaced) and it was very wallet friendly for beginners etc.

Designer Caroline Doherty and I have been great buddies since we met jumping on a bed when we were five. I was thrilled when she sent me a pair of beautiful mittens to wear on my wedding-pink cashmere, elbow length, and made by her using recycled wool and vintage buttons and leather. They were elegant and fun and kept my fingers and arms warm for a November beach wedding!

Sonya Yong James Sonya’s parents met during the Vietnam War and he moved his new bride back to his home state of Tennessee. Soon the couple had Sonya and moved to Atlanta when she was about 6 months old. (Which makes her practically a native now at age 38!)

The Journal Keeper

The Journal Keeper Phyllis Theroux Theroux’s observations about daily life in her small town and her interior writing life have drawn raves, and justly so. She’s my long-time writing mentor, and this book is almost like being in one of her amazing workshops.

When third generation artist Andrea Diamond and her husband, Richard Borland, were both laid off from their jobs last year they decided to turn the negative situation into a positive one: they opened an art studio. With her 25 years experience of teaching math, science, and art; and his background in business at companies like Amgen and Disney it seemed like the perfect solution. It turns out that it was.

Let your mug’s message match your mood with a Chalk Message Mug. It’s also the office equivalent of the bulletin board on your dorm room door.

He`s So Original

Cliff Springs lives in the ‘reel’ world.

Since he was a kid, Cliff enjoyed telling stories—especially if he could both illustrate them with images and articulate them with words. As a high school freshman, he decided to combine his love of writing and visuals to tell stories with film; once he’d made the decision to follow filmmaking as a career, there was no turning back. “I like the bigger than life aspect of filmmaking,” he says. His company, Genesis Studios, is a full-service marketing, film, and production company, and his new baby, Emergent Films, was created to encourage more filmmaking in South Carolina while helping train and retain film talent in the state. “We want to see more things coming out of South Carolina from a filmmaking standpoint,” says Cliff. Emergent Films will produce one feature film and one to three short film projects each year—shooting begins this month for the first feature-length work, a Hitchcockian thriller shot entirely on-set at Genesis Studios’ new studio.

What’s your favorite thing about wearing a skirt? “It was fun to do something that I would have no reason to do otherwise.”

And your favorite thing about reading skirt!? “Finding out what women think and what appeals to women.”
